Cohousing Modena

An avant-garde, experimental project for apartment houses with communal areas in the outskirts of Modena. The design phase benefitted from the active participation by the group of families who had initiated the project. The idea of creating a nerve centre in the neighbourhood and replicating the project in other parts of the city stemmed from the housing need of 15 large families with pre-school age children. The private dwellings are reduced in size since they are complemented by collective spaces set aside for social interaction and open to the neighbourhood; they comprise a free nursery and children’s workshops. The project provides for the use of sustainable building technologies, natural materials and the use of renewable forms of energy.
